Personal PC Icons

Much like the icon sets which you can enjoy changing on your phone (usually through a bespoke interface app) this was a chance for me to try and create a set which I could use to customise the look of File Explorer. Using the vector persona within the Affinity suite I crafted a series of icons, paying attention to uniformity and a sense of communication, which is itself the core design philosophy of an icon.

Each icon was built on the base specification of a 256x256 pixel canvas (default 144dpi). Since I already had a visual basis from which to begin with the standard icons I opted to craft them actively, refining them with a principle which leaned into some of the more stylish icons you might find behind the interface changes in Linux, which I've always felt were more organic, stylish, colourful and less commercially sterile.

Once designed and created each icon was exported as a transparent PNG into a folder and batch processed through the interface provided on the "Convertico" website. The site returns them to you via a downloadable ZIP file (if you batch process).

Applying them was simply a process of taking each icon in turn and replacing the existing icon through a process of right-click "Properties" and "Customise" for each. The result is shown in the second image.
